Manufacturing of Waterproof Plywood and its Benefits.
History: The history of plywood is based on the ancient Greeks and Egyptians, who cut thin layers of wood and tie them in perpendicular form with the grain. The idea of lamination of multiple layers of veneer from wooden logs was first identified by Bentham. Half a century later Emmanuel Nobel decoded that more than one dense sheet of wood would be better than a layer of wood pasted together. He invented the Rotary Lathe, which recognizes the commercial uses of plywood.
Production: The manufacturing of Plywood involves a sturdy wood log called 'peeler,' that has a longer and straighter diameter for processing it into sawmill which put all wooden logs horizontally to peel off. The laid logs are then rotated to a long blade, pressed on it along its long axis; a thin wood layer thus formed to be peeled out. A flexible nose bar may be a roller forced against the wood logs to create a distance between the veneer and the knife that allows the veneer to be pulled in the right thickness. These outsize lags are then allowed to shrink with time. These wooden sheets are graded at a temperature of up to 150 degrees C at the pressure of 2 MPA by their material types and agglutinate to a wood panel. Minor surface problems like scratches, holes, fractions, splits, and knots are overcome by resizing, patching and furnishing as per standards of market.
Waterproof Grades of Plywood: There are 3 Basic Types of Water or Moisture Resistant Plywood is:
MR Grade Plywood: MR plywood is a plywood resistant to moisture. It is also known as industrial plywood. Note that 'moisture tolerant' does not mean 'water resistant. 'MR grade plate is an inner grade of sheet, such that it is reasonable for indoor usage rather than for outdoor use. It is very well suited for use in kitchen racks, television tables, wardrobes, grandstands, tables etc. The moisture-proof ply wood has a thickness of 3mm, 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 21mm, and 25mm. It is cheaper in BWR evaluation of plywood. The cost of each sheet ranges from Rs40 to Rs189 per sq. ft.
Boiling Water Proof (BWP) Grade Plywood: The longevity and consistency of marine plywood (BWP) is higher than both MR and BWR plywood types. It is primarily used for the maritime industry in making structuring vessels and woodworking in ships. The BWP ply wood has a thickness of 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 16mm, 19mm, and 25 mm. The cost of each sheet ranges from Rs52 to Rs300 per sq. ft.
All these plywood provides partial to total resistance from water and has its applications purely dependent for the environmental conditions they are applied to.
